An art exhibit at SUPERMARKET.

It’s been a little while since we wrote about Stockholm’s SUPERMARKET Art Fair, an independent art exhibition held and attended by artists, but the fair is still going strong. Since 2007, SUPERMARKET has been a resource for art lovers and art creators alike. From small beginnings as a “Minimarket” in 2006, the event has become a much larger operation that more people get to enjoy every year. This year, SUPERMARKET will take place from April 21st through the 24th at Svarta huset on Telefonplan, close to Stockholm’s city center.

SUPERMARKET seeks to offer a showcase for artists’ initiatives from all around the world, providing meaningful connections for artists. The fair features exhibitors from over 50 countries and welcomes not just artists but collectors, gallery executives, museum directors, curators, and hobbyist art appreciators of all ages.

In addition to its art exhibition, SUPERMARKET also offers TALKS, the RED SPOT Performance Stage, MEETINGS, Super-TV, and the SUPERMARKET Art Magazine, an internationally-recognized publication on the arts. This year, the RED SPOT Stage will feature “Jam Cardell,” in which secret guests perform together with Jan Cardell’s musical sculptures. Visitors will also be able to see “Sound Performance” and “LIVE SENTENCES” on the stage. These exhibits are open to all visitors.

As this year marks the fair’s tenth anniversary, SUPERMARKET 2016 will take a look into how it has changed over the past decade through talks, works, and performances by both Swedish and international artists. The fair also hopes to bring the public into the world of art and to get them involved, or at least in the know, about the artist-run program. Visitors are meant to focus on meeting new people and having new experiences rather than art sales, which is part of what makes SUPERMARKET so unique and so valuable for its exhibitors and visitors alike.

SUPERMARKET will be open April 21-24. Opening hours can be seen here, as well as prices for tickets and handy directions for travelers both by car and by transit.
