The Food & Wine Classic is a yearly tradition for Food & Wine Magazine, and takes place annually in picturesque Aspen, Colorado. This year’s classic wrapped up on June 16th after three days of the very best of – you guessed it – food and wine that the vast culinary industry has to offer.
This event brings together celebrity chefs, restaurateurs, cooks, sommeliers, food critics, writers, and of course, passionate foodies from all walks of life. The Food and Wine Classic is three exceptional days of cooking demonstrations, food and wine tasting sessions from hundreds of vendors, chefs, and wineries, and panel discussions from world-class culinary experts. It also can act as a reunion of sorts for high profile personalities in the celebrity chef circuit, and attendees are sure to see a number of famous members of the culinary world.
This year’s Classic was no exception, and attendees were dazzled, delighted, and even intoxicated by everything there was to soak in at the event (we’re not kidding, those Patrón popsicles were a boozy hit!). In an interview for Food & Wine, chef and judge for Bravo’s Top Chef Gail Simmons explained, “The Classic has done it right for almost 30 years. It’s intimate. The setting is unmatched. And you know that if you’re here, you traveled a really long way to get here. You didn’t just drive in for the day. You didn’t just sort of walk over because you’re in the neighborhood. If you are in Aspen for this weekend, it’s because you LOVE food and wine and all things related,” when asked about what sets the Classic apart from other culinary events. Celebrity chef Michael Symon agrees, saying, “To me, it’s the original. It’s not all flash and dash—it’s really all about the food and the wine.”
Indeed, the event is truly a treasure in the culinary world. Some of the highlights of the 2013 Food & Wine Classic included: the street food of Singapore per José Andrés, the charcuterie from the Bocuse D’Or Luncheon, and the many fabulous cooking demonstrations from chefs like Thomas Keller.
