New York City is already known for being a cultural hub, a fact that becomes all the more apparent during summertime when the return of warm weather and sunshine brings out New Yorkers and tourists looking for top-notch entertainment.
There are so many fantastic events taking place all over the city during the summer, dividing your time between all of them might be the best problem you could have this season.
Here are a few events that NYC and Company don’t want you to miss out on this summer:
1. The Intrepid Summer Movie Series
This series takes place on the flight deck of the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum, a floating museum residing on a retired WWII aircraft carrier docked in the Hudson River. On select Fridays this summer there will be free movies aired here after sunset. Expect to see classics like Top Gun and the original The Karate Kid.
2. Shakespeare in the Park
This is another free series that takes place annually each summer at the outdoor Delacorte Theater in Central Park. This season you can catch The Comedy of Errors through June 30th, and Love’s Labour’s Lost between July 23rd and August 18th. Shakespeare in the Park is one of New York City’s most treasured summertime traditions, and one you won’t want to miss.
3. New York City Public Gardens
One of the best ways to enjoy New York City’s culture and beauty is to visit its many public gardens throughout the five boroughs. These green spaces offer more than just flora; many of them feature exhibitions for a limited time throughout the summer, like the Four Seasons, an installation at the New York Botanical Garden that features 15 foot-high sculptures made from plants, amongst other visually stunning displays.
